If you've got a big project planned, whether it be some DIY paving ideas or garden landscaping, you will be faced with the decision to either hire or purchase the necessary equipment to complete your project.

Here are some great reasons why hiring tools can trump the purchase of them.

    More cost effective

This is particularly important if you are only completing a once-in-a-blue-moon type of job. Renting is a better financial decision with a lower upfront cost.

After all, how likely would you be to reuse some of that specialised equipment such as jigs and cherry pickers?

    Better product

Often, a rental company will own better tools than you could realistically expect to purchase on your own. Better quality equipment will be able to complete the job you are doing to a higher standard than any tools you own yourself.

Low cost equipment may be more likely to break down so hiring can open you up to a bigger range of top-of-the-line  items, used daily by professionals across the country.

Using some more technical and specialist equipment comes with more risks. By choosing to rent these tools, you can ensure the quality and safety has been vouched for and verified by a team of qualified professionals.

    No need to store

If you live in a smaller property or apartment, it is likely that you may not have the space available to store a ladder or other piece of large equipment.

While you could probably fit in a screwdriver or measuring tape, an excavator could be a little trickier. Hiring this equipment saves you all the stress of trying to squeeze these kinds of tools into limited storage space.

    No maintenance cost

If you own your own tools, you will have to ensure they are being carefully looked after. Hiring them instead takes away all of the maintenance worries as they become someone else's problem to deal with.

    Better for the environment

Hiring tools instead of purchasing new items means fewer pieces of equipment will need to be built to meet demand. This reduces the amount of greenhouse gases that go into their creation.

According to good housekeeping, the average power tool is only used for half an hour in its lifetime - it clearly makes more sense to rent one when you need it.
