2018 sees Kennards Hire celebrate its 70th birthday. And it all began in Bathurst, New South Wales in 1948 when a customer walked into Walter Kennard’s small rural supply and machinery store and asked to borrow a new Lightburn concrete mixer rather than buy one. Wally famously said, “I won’t lend it to you, but I’ll hire it to you”. The rest, as they say, is history.

On Thursday, the Kennards Hire Bathurst Branch celebrated with staff and local dignitaries and personalities, including Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM, The Hon. Andrew Gee MP, Federal Member for Calare, and Stephen Harper, Secretary of the Bathurst Business Chamber, as they cut a slice of 70th birthday cake in honour of this important milestone.

Not ever to do things by halves, 170-odd branches across Australia and New Zealand all received surprise cakes or cupcakes on Thursday in celebration of the company’s 70th birthday.

Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said, "I would like to congratulate Kennards Hire for celebrating 70 years of operation today. This milestone is an example of Bathurst's thriving business community which numbers around 3,300 and provides a valuable contribution to the region's economy."

Kennards Hire Zone Manager, Central West, Craig McMahon said he and his team were proud and excited to be a focus of the 70th Anniversary celebrations.

“Kennards Hire started in Bathurst all those years ago. It was a great day when we came back to the birthplace of the business just on two years ago. We fit in really well in Bathurst, it’s a local-business supporting local-business kind of town,” he said.

“The team get a big kick out of being a part of the community and being involved in its many initiatives and activities. From sponsoring the Bathurst NRL club to grassroots teams like the Eglinton soccer club, as well as the Bathurst Winter Festival. It’s fair to say that the Kennards Hire Bathurst Branch is a big advocate of local sports and community events.”

When asked about how he was feeling being part of a company that has such strong local roots and a history that is now industry legend, Craig had this to say:

“With the business reaching 70 years of operation this year, it’s a fantastic time to be working for a company that is still proudly family-owned and going strong — bring on another 70!”

Every year, Kennards Hire aims to take hire higher. By continuously delivering innovative equipment hire products to its customers, its One Family value makes sure they never compromise on their promise to make your job easy. And that’s just Fair Dinkum!
