In order to keep the existing Blaxland Waste Management Facility operational during its upgrade, commercial construction company Thiess, hired 100 metres of concrete barriers and 1.8 metre high fencing from Kennards Hire, Girraween.
The landfill site upgrade includes a new recycling shed and gatehouse, weighbridge and an automated drive through wheel-wash station to prevent contaminants from being transported from the site. The concrete barriers were placed along either side of the access roadway to the existing landfill which enabled customers to enter the site without being interrupted by construction operations or machinery. The fencing, which interlocks into the concrete barriers, indicates the site boundary and also prevents people from entering the restricted areas. This protects people and plant equipment after hours. The barriers and fencing were delivered to site by Kennards Hire, which enabled Thiess to place them in the exact positions required with a Franna crane.
