A new federal government publication was released yesterday (February 4) analysing the employment changes over the last five years and also looking at the projected industry job growth to 2016-17.

The publication, Aussie Jobs, Looking Back, Looking Forward: 2007-2017, revealed that employment is at a record high of 11.5 million, meaning more Australians are working than ever before.

The report signalled a steady growth of employment for the construction industry from November 2007 to November 2012, with an increase of 31,500.

The construction industry is projected to "experience stronger growth", the report stated, with over 130,000 additional workers expected to be employed by the industry by 2016-17.

This projected 12.6 per cent rise from employment figures in November 2012 is forecasted to come second to the health care and social assistance industry in terms of projected employment growth by 2016-17.

The top five share of projected employment growth by 2016-17 after health (26.4 per cent) and construction (14.3 per cent) are professional, scientific and technical services (11.8 per cent), mining (11.3 per cent) and education and training (6.7 per cent).
