A 100 tonne crane lifted seven pumps, hired from Kennards Hire Pump & Power, into position during work at a Canberra’s main waste water treatment plant.
A flow of 800 litres per second was required to rapidly empty part of the plant for scheduled maintenance.
The pumps included 200mm (8in) and 150mm (6in) silenced units, some of which were trailer-mounted and others skid-mounted.
The 200mm pumps have a maximum capacity of 220 litres per second and a maximum head of 64m, while the 150mm model has a maximum capacity of 174 litres per second and maximum head of 60m.
Heavy rain in the eastern states during summer and autumn this year also led to heavy demand for big pumps after numerous flooding incidents and for mine dewatering.
Kennards Hire Pump & Power, which has hire centres in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia, worked hard to move pumps between locations to meet the urgent needs.
