For some of us, winter means staying indoors with arts, crafts and books while the rain pours outside. Get creative, DIY-style, by converting an unused cupboard into a hideaway desk!

This is perfect for a cluttered and unattractive home office. If you have a built in cupboard in this room, a top tip to open up a space is by transforming this cupboard into a work space. Simply empty out the storage that has been sitting in there for months, remove the bottom shelves and replace them with a large piece of timber that takes up the length and width of the space - easily sized to fit with the right tools.

The top shelves can continue to be used as storage space, whilst the desk area can be available whenever you need it - and hidden away when you don't! Paint the area in a bright, bold colour such as orange to really boost productivity.

In the meantime, you have now freed up an entire room to use as a second, smaller lounge, a library, or just a place to relax when the rest of the house is a little chaotic.
