How to paint a home safely

Painting your own home is a great way to save money and have some fun as well, however there are a few risks and pitfalls that you need to be aware of.

Here are a few top tips to help make sure that your DIY painting job goes off without a hitch.

Paint from a solid platform

When painting a house exterior you will often be required to elevate yourself off the ground, sometimes to several metres in height.

This can be dangerous if you are not using a stable platform to base yourself from, so make sure that your ladder is firmly grounded or that you are using a properly set up scissor lift.

Ventilate properly

Paint fumes can contain dangerous chemicals and can be dangerous if inhaled excessively, so make sure that you are always painting in a well-ventilated area.

Consider using a paint mask if you are going to be painting for an extended period of time and want to avoid feeling dizzy or nauseous.

Keep children and pets away from paint

If you have any young children or animals around your home then you will want to take special care to ensure that they are not left alone with any paint.
