Theo Agelis Construction (TAC) has recently announced its intention to deliver a new formal Certificate 3 in concreting over a two-year course, which is being backed by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
TAC works in South Australia providing concrete training and skills to tradespeople as an alternative to the traditional 'on the job' style of learning.
Those who work with concrete footing have a lot riding on their skills as "concrete is not very forgiving - you only get one shot at it once it is mixed," says Shane Agelis, managing director of TAC.
"Your whole house depends on the quality of the footings so it's important that we employ the best people and equip them with the highest skills," he said.
The course is about more than just basic concrete cleaning and care however, as it involved the technical side of concrete cutting, with an in-depth study of the mathematical side of determining cubic capacities and conceptual skills.
CITB has offered a funding package for employers who cover the cost of time and training for their workers to learn these invaluable skills for the construction industry.
