Kieran Sharp has been awarded the 2013 Roads Australia Technical Excellence Award for his 37-year-long dedication to national and international road research.
Mr Sharp is a Senior Project Manager with ARRB (formerly Australian Road Research Board) and has providedd a sustained, significant contribution to the development of skill and expertise across pavement technology topics.
The award recognises Mr Sharp's work on materials, pavement and asset management research projects for the National Transport Commission, state road agencies, Austroads and OECD, as well as the road industry.
Mr Sharp has previously received an Austroads Achievement Award and has been a member of many industry-based reference groups and project steering committees. He is also the third Australian to be awarded an Honorary Membership into the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia.
When he accepted the award at Roads Australia's Christmas lunch, Mr Sharp made sure to mention his mentors Max Lay and John Metcalf. Both men have also won Roads Australia award.
He urged those in the industry to focus on ensuring the next generation is taught the skills required to meet future challenges in the road industry.
