For any tradesperson, working in an environment where security and harmony are important concerns of your employer can be of paramount importance to ensuring a productive and happy professional life.

Industrial and workplace relations guidelines enacted by government agencies can assist both workers and their managers in maintaining fair and equitable working relationships.

With that in mind, the Victorian government is targeting unproductive site practises and breaches of enterprise agreement clauses in its brand new industrial relations guidelines for the construction sector.

According to Australian Industry Group chief executive Heather Ridout, the guidelines - made public yesterday (April 3) - highlight the government's hard line stance in support of recent workplace relations reforms.

"The new guidelines are set to play an important role in ensuring that the construction industry reforms are preserved and that there is no return to the ways of the not so distant past," Ms Ridout stated.

The Master Builders Association has also come out in support of the strengthened rules, with executive director Brian Welch saying: "This move will help protect investment and jobs for Victorian construction projects."
