19 September is National Family Business Day, a day to recognise the amazing contribution of all Australian and New Zealand family businesses to our economy, culture and community.
In Australia and New Zealand, family businesses are the backbone of our social fabric and economies. This is evident when you understand that around 70% of all Australian businesses are family- owned and operated and employing approximately 50 percent the workforce; whilst in New Zealand 75% of consumers trust family businesses more than non-family businesses.
Just like Kennards Hire, there are plenty of iconic family-owned businesses such as Akubra Hats in Australia and Hynds in New Zealand. But it is not just the large businesses that make an impact. It’s the local corner store where you buy your morning paper, it’s the vet you take your dog to for its annual check-up, or the plumber who fixed your leaking tap. Next year Kennards Hire will be celebrating 75 years as a proud third-generation family business. Kennards Hire has come a long way from a site in Bathurst back in 1948 and this is something the company are pleased to celebrate. Since that day, Kennards Hire has grown to over 190 branches across two countries, employing more than 1,600 people. The company’s philosophy is grounded in its value of ‘One Family’, a value that have served three generations of the Kennard family in creating the iconic hire equipment company we all work in.
